Amazon Kindle book

Bought my first Amazon Kindle book just now. Liars & Outliers: Enabling the Trust that Society Needs to Thrive  by Bruce Schneier. However it didn’t download. It is probably a restriction on the schools network.
Also, just discovered swipe on my tablet. My phone has it and I love it, so it is nice to know it is on my tablet too. It really makes writing longer entries without they’ve keyboard dock much easier.

Time for class to start skin. I’ll let you know how reading a book on my tablet goes.

Slow blogger…

You probably thought that i forgot about my blog! Well I haven’t. :)

I have been using my tablet for a lot but it hasn’t been the laptop or desktop replacement I set out for it to be. I certainly has the potential though. Currently I am finishing my undergraduate degree and doing research and writing papers on a 10 inch screen isn`t cutting it for me so I`ve been using my desktop for most of my homework. I did all of my graduate school application on the tablet and it went pretty smooth.

On another note I uploaded my first video to youtube from my phone and then I somehow managed to delete it. oops.I`ll try again later.

Thats all for now and I`ll try to be more dilligent about posting about my experiences as they occur.

Installing WordPress…

I installed WordPress with just the tablet. This required a few apps beyond what came installed by default. The application I used to SSH to my webserver, download the WordPress installer, and configure the installation was ConnectBot (by Kenny Root and Jeffrey Sharkey). This worked well exept for one thing, none of the default keyboards installed on the Transformer Prime have arrow keys so manipulating Vi to edit the configuration file was impossible for me. I donloaded the Hacker’s Keyboard (by Klaus Weidner) which has a standard layout, including arrow keys, and worked well to finish the installation.

While it would be nice to hae everything I am acustomed to on Windows it was not hard to find what I needed in the app store.

Living life on Android

This blog will detail my attempt to live life with my Android tablet and phone. I’ll be giving up using Windows, except at work as we aren’t a bring your own device shop.

My tablet is an ASUS Transformer Prime and phone is a Samsung Galaxy S II.  I currently don’t have the docking station/keyboard for the Prime but it is coming in a few days. I did the install of wordpress completely using thPrime. I’ll detail how that went a bit later.

That’s all for now.
